We’ve used Tim Baker for numerous assorted projects on my home over the last 5 years. All have been completed with the best craftsmanship I’ve ever seen – all at very reasonable prices. Tim is a top-flight finish carpenter, structural carpenter, masonry expert, and metal fabricator to name just a few of his myriad of talents. We simply won’t use anybody else.

What makes Tim unique is that he is not only a skilled craftsman in an incredible number of areas, but a very imaginative designer and talented seat-of-the pants engineer heavily endowed with pure common sense. This dramatically extends his capabilities to very tough projects that others won’t touch (at least without tearing down half the house to do it)– the necessary innovation is beyond them.

Partial Project List – (I’ve left out the more mundane stuff)

1) Repaired structural damage to the top of one of our garage door openings caused by incompetent roofers as they removed the old roofing in preparing to install new. Good as new after Tim’s repair work.

2) We have Five 6” square wood columns supporting the overhang on our front porch. They were rotting at the bottom due to blown in rain over the years threatening the integrity of our porch roof. Other contractors wanted to jack up the roof and replace all the columns. Tim figured out a fix that avoided this but left us with the equivalent structural stability and longevity. What he charged us for this was probably less that the cost to buy one of those massive columns, let alone the labor. Tim’s genius certainly showed on this project.

3) Water leak (seepage) from unknown source in our master bathroom was rotting out the end of the walnut-faced bathroom counter and cabinets. Tim found the leak: water was seeping beneath the tile to the cabinet from a bad toilet seal (Tough diagnosis). He not only fixed the leak (really a plumber’s job), and replaced the end of the cabinet; but matched the 35 year old wood stain so closely that it’s impossible to tell it was ever repaired.

4) Custom built a 6 foot tall 4-shelf rack on casters for the extensive amount of computer equipment required by my main server. I gave Tim only the shelf heights and sizes of the equipment to go on the shelves. He designed a lightweight welded metal frame supported by high quality casters, and used Melamine shelving material. The end product is light and solid as a rock; and allows me to move the equipment group around easily, only having to unplug a couple of cables. The rack has only a 20” x 24” footprint; the space this saved did wonders for my cramped computer shop.
